An FIR was registered against Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai at a police station in Mahoba on Saturday over alleged derogatory and abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The complaint was filed by advocate Neeraj Rawat, outgoing state Congress secretary Brijraj Ahirwar and around 30 party supporters.

According to the complaint, Ajay Rai, who was on a visit to Mahoba on Friday, allegedly made objectionable remarks against the Prime Minister.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at the City Kotwali police station and an investigation has been initiated.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 126(2), 352, 196(1), 189(2), and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said further investigation is underway.
On Friday, Ajay Rai had visited Mahoba to meet the family of an alleged rape victim, during which he allegedly used derogatory and abusive language against the Prime Minister.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several BJP leaders have condemned the remarks made by the Congress leader.
